THE STORY OF TQG

TQG was founded in 2018 in Lund by a team of skilled and experienced people from five different countries with qualified and diverse backgrounds. Since then, our competences have been merged to create a vision of delivering first class products and services to our customers. This is supported by our knowledge in modern standards, suppliers, products, and tools in high-power electronics.

As a result of this and our focused mindset on constant improvement, we have developed a unique range of products for powering large scientific research facilities. Furthermore, we have also customized these products to serve industrial projects in sectors besides research.

This DC Power Source for the CR* Dipole Magnets Power Converter (rated at +/-2750V; +/-1500A) was developed at TQG. The product has a compact and lean design based on switch-mode technology with an active front end, which will minimise impact on the grid.

“Our solution is highly efficient, which directly translates to significant savings in operational costs over the estimated lifetime of the component,” explains Carlos Cordova, CEO of TQG.

AQ Elautomatik, the subcontractor for this project, will be building the power source based on a build-to-print design from TQG. The order value is SEK 6.8 million and delivery is scheduled for 2025, with final site acceptance tests at FAIR planned for mid-2026.

This order is a one-off, but it will certainly help to strengthen TQG's reputation as a reliable supplier of high voltage power converter designs and products to the Big Science community.

"TQG specialises in electrical power supply system solutions for scientific facilities. The new contract includes design, production, testing and supply of high voltage matching transformers for indoor operation. The product will be delivered in January 2022.

Trusted supplier of High Voltage Pulse Transformers
The Quantum Group has designed a product that can be easily adapted to different customer requirements. Carlos Cordova, CEO at The Quantum Group, explains the importance of this new order.

“High Voltage Pulse Transformers are a key element of machines producing short but high intensity beams. This is an important milestone for TQG in becoming a trusted supplier for High Voltage Pulse Transformers around the world, and we are proud to have FAIR as an important reference customer.

“We now have a complete design software and methodology in place that can easily adapt to different customer requirements. Compared to current market standards, we can supply a more compact and cost-effective product with the same performance.”

Good opportunities for attracting new customers
The Quantum Group also has the capacity to design and build the full stack, from pulse transformers to fully integrated modulators, and hopes to attract new customers in the fields of medical applications (e.g. proton/electron machines for cancer treatment), food treatment (e.g. pulsed electric field technology), X-ray cargo scanners, powerful radar systems, etc. in the near future.
